Maxine’s Cafe & Bar is one of my favourite brunch spots in Vancouver (BC Canada) and it’s a place where European bistro meets New York-style.

The menu features dishes that showcases local and fresh ingredients in the Pacific Northwest.
The inspiration for the restaurant’s name is one of Vancouver’s pioneering women, Maxine MacGilvray.

She was an entrepreneur from the early 1900’s and the owner of a prosperous beauty salon and school in the 1930’s.
Throughout the cafe, the décor and ambiance honors women such as Maxine.
I’ve been to Maxine’s a few times and here are the dishes I have tried.
For brunch, I love the thick, buttery Brioche French Toast with whipped mascarpone, candied walnuts, preserve on top.

The Smoked Salmon Rosti is a great West Coast-style brunch with potato rösti, poached eggs, dill cream cheese, pickled shallot, capers, hollandaise.

The Dutch Baby comes in a cast iron skillet and features a fried egg, shaved ham, and sauce mornay poured at tableside. It’s a more indulgent dish but tasty.

The Chickepea Falafel Bowl is a healthy, lighter option with quinoa, crispy falafel, pickled vegetables, tahini, and gem lettuce.

I found the service friendly and attentive. Prices seem reasonable for the portions and quality you get.
Maxine’s Cafe & Bar is located at 1325 Burrard St, Vancouver, BC.
