Chalet Ivy Weiss is preparing for their first full winter season in Niseko (a ski resort area in Hokkaido), with a new nonstop Air Canada route making Hokkaido easier to reach from Vancouver.
Air Canada will begin nonstop service between Vancouver and Hokkaido on December 17. Canadian travellers previously needed to connect through Tokyo when travelling to the ski region.
Interest in Japan has continued to rise among Canadians. More than 688,000 Canadians visited the country in 2025, an increase of 18 per cent from the previous year and a new record, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization.
Chalet Ivy Weiss is in the quieter Hanazono Weiss area of Niseko. The hotel has 87 rooms and suites, all facing Mt. Yotei or the Niseko peaks. There are no neighbouring buildings blocking the mountain views.
The hotel draws water from a private natural hot spring source. Guests have access to an infinity onsen bath facing Mt. Yotei, and select suites come with private in-room onsen baths.
The eighth-floor Unkai sky lounge has 360-degree views across the surrounding mountains. Bar 450 serves Hokkaido whiskies and craft beer beside a wood-burning fireplace.
Haruka serves seasonal omakase courses using ingredients from Hokkaido, including seafood, wagyu, produce and dairy.
A ski concierge can arrange equipment rentals, fittings and transportation to the slopes. Drying lockers are available for ski and snowboard gear. Winter activities include snow cat tours, backcountry skiing, snowmobile tours and ice fishing.
NIKUR Spa is the onsite spa and they take their name from an Ainu word meaning the shade of trees. It is the first spa in Hokkaido to use Japanese botanical essential oils from Kaorito.
The property has a fitness centre on the seventh floor. Chalet Ivy has two other Hokkaido properties in Hirafu and Jozankei.
Rates for December 13 range from approximately CAD $634 to $5,198 per night. Rates for December 24 range from about CAD $970 to $7,032 per night.
The top rate applies to the Weiss Suite, which has a private in-room onsen and full kitchen. No minimum stay is required.
