Wendy’s Breakfast Poutine: A New Way to Start the Day

If you believe poutine belongs at any meal, Wendy’s Canada agrees. As of May 4, the chain has officially added Breakfast Poutine to their morning lineup. This move transforms a Canadian staple into a morning option for those who want a savoury alternative to standard breakfast fare.

High-Quality Local Ingredients

A proper poutine requires the right components. Wendy’s uses 100% Canadian-grown potatoes and authentic cheese curds from Quebec. To adapt the dish for the morning, their kitchen replaces standard French fries with crispy, seasoned breakfast potato wedges. These potatoes provide a spicy, textured base that holds up under hot gravy.

Two Ways to Order

Customers can choose between two versions of the dish:

  • The Classic: Seasoned breakfast potatoes topped with traditional gravy and Quebec cheese curds.
  • The Swiss Cheese: A variation featuring a creamy Swiss cheese sauce for a different flavour profile.

For a more substantial meal, you can add two strips of Applewood smoked bacon. The poutine is available as an individual order or as an upgrade to any breakfast combo.

Driven by Canadian Demand

The data supports this menu expansion. Poutine is one of the top five most-ordered foods in Canada. In 2025 alone, Wendy’s served more than six million poutines. While many people stick to a routine in the morning, Canadian diners are increasingly open to trying more indulgent, savoury dishes to start their day.

Wendy’s sources over 45 million pounds of Canadian potatoes every year to meet this demand. By using ten different potato varieties, their recipe ensures the wedges stay fluffy inside and crunchy on the outside.

A New Morning Staple

The arrival of Breakfast Poutine offers a practical, filling solution for the morning commute. It bypasses the usual sweet breakfast options in favour of something hearty and familiar. Whether you are a poutine enthusiast or simply tired of eggs and toast, this new menu item brings a piece of Canadian culture to the start of the workday.

More Than Just Poutine: Wendy’s Classics, All Day

Sometimes, you want Wendy’s Chicken Strips at 8 a.m. Now, you can.

Alongside Breakfast Poutine, Wendy’s Canada is introducing their new All Day Classics menu, bringing select fan‑favourite lunch and dinner items into the breakfast hours for the first time. That means customers can enjoy iconic Wendy’s favorites like the Dave’s Single®, Bacon Deluxe, Baconator®, Classic and Spicy Chicken, and Chicken Strips starting in the morning.

This isn’t just a menu expansion; it’s a response to how our customers want to enjoy Wendy’s. Whether it’s a late‑night shift winding down or an early start to the workday, they’re giving fans more freedom to order what they love, when they want it.
