Café William Sets Sail with Largest Modern Sailing Cargo Ship

Café William has announced the inaugural voyage of the largest modern sailing cargo ship in collaboration with TransOceanic Wind Transport. The 81-meter vessel will transport 50 containers of green coffee beans, including those from Colombia’s ANEI cooperative, to Québec this fall. This pioneering project aims to reduce maritime emissions by using wind power instead of traditional fossil fuels.

The shipment includes Fairtrade and organic-certified beans that support sustainable livelihoods for farmers. Upon arrival, the beans will be roasted in Café William’s Québec facility, using a fully electric industrial coffee roaster to minimize environmental impact. This initiative marks a significant step towards decarbonizing maritime transport and supporting eco-friendly coffee production.

The limited edition Wind Series, featuring these sustainably transported beans, will be available at Costco in Canada and on the Café William website starting November.
