Guac Daddy Los Angeles – new Mexico-City inspired taqueria

Guac Daddy, the new Mexico City-inspired taqueria, opens on an iconic corner on Vermont Ave in Los Feliz [1824 N Vermont Ave]. The new neighborhood gem, from a team including Bardonna & Tu Madre owner Joshua Pourgol, Jude Eranimus (Tacos El Superior), and Paul Tran (formerly of The Halal Guys), features a walk-up counter reminiscent of a bustling Mexican marketplace, with a robust menu of mesquite-grilled meats with the choice to be served as a taco, burrito, vampiro (fried crispy cheese taco) or quesadilla, customizable to each guest’s preference. The menu also includes a variety of housemade guacamoles & salsas and refreshing agua frescas made in-house daily. Using only the most fresh, local ingredients and time-honored recipes, Guac Daddy is a destination and celebration for Mexican flavors in Los Angeles for all occasions in a lively setting.

The Team

Guac Daddy is the latest venture from restaurateur Joshua Pourgol, who also owns and operates Los Angeles hotspots Bardonna and Tu Madre, and seasoned restaurant operator Jude Eranimus of the popular taco restaurant Tacos El Superior, which grew from a singular food truck to a beloved restaurant with multiple locations throughout Southern California. Joshua and Jude are joined by Chef Jose Salinas (previously of C&O Cucina Restaurant in Marina Del Rey) and Paul Tran, who was formerly one of the largest franchisees of The Halal Guys, the fast casual halal concept originating in New York City. 

Food

Guac Daddy’s menu consists of flavorful Mexico City-inspired dishes, drawing inspiration from the familiar taco stalls scattered throughout the dynamic city. Guac Daddy serves freshly made TacosBurritosCalifornia Burritos (with french fries inside); Quesadillas; and Vampiros, with a choice of mesquite-grilled meats such as Carne AsadaPollo AsadoPollo al Pastor, chipotle and pineapple marinated chicken spit-roasted on traditional trompo; as well as Birria, slow-braised beef brisket, as well as unique offerings like Pollo Tomatillo and Koreano, char-grilled bulgogi beef. Guac Daddy also offers a variety of vegetarian options including ChampinonesFrijoles y Queso; and Calabacitas, roasted squash, corn, tomato, and mojo de ajo. All menu items are served “Con Todo” with guacamole, onion, cilantro and salsa roja. The menu also features housemade guacamoles such as their classic House GuacSpicy Guac, with serrano and jalapeno; Kale-ifornia Guacmade with kale; and Super-Seed Guac made with hemp & chia seeds, and pepitas. Side dishes include Potato Taquitos, Loaded Asada Fries, Totopos (tortilla chips) and Street Corn

Breakfast is available all day with a choice of Breakfast Burritos with crispy tater tots, soft scrambled eggs, chipotle aioli, con todo; Queso-Huevo Breakfast Quesadillas and cinnamon dusted Churros. 

A variety of salsas ranging in level of spiciness are also available ranging  from mild Tomatillo Salsa; medium Salsa RojaSalsa Macha, a medium-spiced chili oil; hot Avocado Serrano Salsa; to a vegan Chipotle Aioli. 

Beverages

Guac Daddy offers an array of refreshing housemade beverages such as agua frescas, coffee-based drinks and rotating signature beverages, like the Mango Mojito with jasmine green tea, mango purée and fresh mint; and Guava Sunrise with guava & lemon juice and hibiscus tea. Agua frescas are made fresh daily in flavors like Strawberry Guava Lemonadewith strawberry purée, guava purée, lemon juice and simple syrup; Hibiscus Rose, with hibiscus tea and rose; Horchata, with rice milk, cinnamon & sugar; and Strachata, a strawberry horchata, and each can be customized with the option to add boba. Coffee drinks round out the menu, including a housemade Oaxacan Coffee made with cold brew concentrate, sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon. 

Design

Guac Daddy captures the vibrant spirit of Mexico City with a sun-kissed yellow tiled facade and electric blue accents. Nestled beneath the iconic lights of the Los Feliz Theater, the restaurant stands out on the corner of Russell & N Vermont Ave, with a captivating mural featuring the concept’s playful cartoon avocado mascot and a lively sign bearing the motto “Less Talk More Guac,” adding colorful charm to this new taco destination. The space features two standing bars and a sidewalk outdoor dining area adorned with colorful rainbow stools. Guests can catch a glimpse of the open kitchen from the to-go windows, where the Guac Daddy staff crafts their signature tacos, burritos and street corn.
