Newly opened in Vancouver is Tozen Sushi Bar, a sister concept of Tom Sushi. They are located at West Broadway and Oak in Vancouver, taking over the former space of Happy Wood BBQ House at 967 West Broadway.

Tozen Sushi Bar Menu
Tozen Sushi Bar’s menu is somewhat more elevated than what is offered at Tom Sushi. You’ll find sashimi; nigiri; rolled sushi; yakiudon; donburi and more. There are some higher end items but also some run-of-the-mill options. In general, I thought their menu was approachable.

What We Tried
We visited them for dinner and here is my not sponsored, honest review.

I went with items that were more unique to Tozen Sushi and not available at Tom Sushi.
To start, there was the Hokkaido Bafun Uni Nigiri $12 which was fresh, buttery and delicious.

We also had the Anago Nigiri $9. The anago piece was actually longer than the amount of rice under so it was recommended to cut and eat away at the anago and then finally get a reasonably sized nigiri piece to eat. The anago was very soft and sweet.

The Negi Kanpa Hama Rolls $24 were very good and featured negi hamachi (yellowtail), negi kanpachi (amberjack) with crab stick, avocado and cucumber.

We also had the vegetarian Midori Yam Rolls $13 with deep fried yam, guacamole, and crispy potato fries. I liked the crispy potato fries topping along with a bit of sweetness from the mango sauce.

For a main entrée, we had the Hamburg Steak $22 featuring 2 pieces of hamburg steak, fried egg, and vegetables. The steak was very juicy, tender and sweet and savory.

And I also got an order of Albacore Tuna Sashimi $12 which was perfect and melt-in-your-mouth.

We also got a free miso soup!

Our bill was just over $100 + tip and I thought everything was very reasonable.

Interior & Vibe
The sleek and stylish interior features a mix of cozy dining booths and tables. Overall, it’s very comfortable and doesn’t feel crammed.

Service
The service was friendly and attentive. The servers are professional and dressed in sleek black outfits.

All in all, a good experience and I would recommend trying them out!
