McDonald’s Canada has brought back the Spicy McChicken Challenge for a limited time only. The featured sandwiches are Habanero McChicken (regular menu); Scotch Bonnet McChicken (Sept 1 – 28); and the Ghost Pepper McChicken (September 15 – 28).

The Habanero McChicken is on the regular menu. The new Scotch Bonnet McChicken is available September 1 – 28. The Ghost Pepper McChicken is available September 15 – 28.
Spicy McChickens Spiciness Levels
The McChickens were made spicy through new spicy mayonnaise sauces created by McDonald’s chefs. These spicy sauces replace the regular non-spicy mayonnaise in the McChicken.
The spiciness level is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) with the higher the units the more spiciness.
Spice ratings of each pepper, according to the Scoville scale, measure at:
- Habanero Pepper = 100,000 – 350,000 SHU
- Scotch Bonnet Pepper = 100,000–350,000 SHU
- Ghost Pepper = Over 1,000,000 SHU
The Ghost Pepper is essentially 10x more spicy than the Habanero.
Spicy McChickens Nutrition Comparison
From a nutrition standpoint, all the McChickens are pretty comparable. This is not surprising considering the only change to the sandwiches were the sauces. The most obvious difference is that the spicy McChickens tend to have more sodium than the regular McChicken.

Spicy McChickens Price
In terms of McDonald’s prices, all the spicy McChickens are $5.39 for the sandwich or make it a meal for $9.39. The spicy McChicken sandwiches are just $0.20 more than a regular McChicken which is $5.19. This is based on Vancouver, Canada pricing.
*New* Scotch Bonnet McChicken Review
I recently tried the new Scotch Bonnet McChicken sandwich and found it to be spicier than the Habanero one. Still very tasty! I suppose which sandwich you choose depends on how much spiciness you want.
The spicy McChickens all have the same type of box but will have a specially marked tab on the box to identify it.
