McDonald’s has just added Li’L Donuts to their permanent menu and there are five flavours to try.
Disclosure: McDonald’s Canada offered me a media package of Li’l Donuts to try.
McDonald’s Li’l Donuts Flavours
These range from classic to richer varieties:
- Apple Fritter
- Sprinkle
- Strawberry Jelly
- Maple Caramel
- Boston Cream
APPLE FRITTER (made with 14% real apples and layers of cinnamon)
SPRINKLE (kind of like Homer Simpson’s donut! Pink vanilla flavoured icing and rainbow sprinkles.)
STRAWBERRY JELLY (dusted with powdered sugar and has strawberry flavoured filling)
MAPLE CARAMEL (caramel flavoured cream, maple icing and drizzled with vanilla frosting)
BOSTON CREAM (filled with Bavarian cream, topped with chocolate icing and chocolate drizzle)
Here is a cross section of the donuts:
McDonald’s Li’l Donuts Price
The donuts are available all day and are priced at $0.99 for one, $1.79 for a pair, $4.99 for half-dozen or $9.49 for a dozen.

How do McDonald’s Li’l Donuts compare to Tim Hortons Timbits?
Different Timbits flavours vary by serving size and nutrition but the range is about 9 – 25 grams for serving size (versus 42 – 55 grams for McDonald’s Li’l Donuts and 45 – 90 calories (versus 120 – 180 calories for McDonald’s Li’l Donuts).
So, McDonald’s Li’l Donuts are roughly twice as big as a Timbit and has twice the number of calories.
Which was my favourite McDonald’s Li’l Donut flavour?
My favourite was the Boston Cream as I enjoyed the light and airy vanilla-flavoured custard filling.

The Boston cream was delicious and the pinky coloured sprinkles was good but wanted more!

Not what I'd call a doughnut. The whole thing (a so called Boston Cream) tasted like fatty uncooked dough. Not a pleasant experience, stick with the Quarter Pounders.

So far I've tasted 4 of them and the only one I would maybe purchase again so far is the Boston Cream, but only because of the cream part. I found that the others had no taste, were dry/doughy. I've tried the sprinkle, apple fritter, Boston Cream and I think the strawberry jelly one which really had no taste.

These donuts are terrible. They taste like lard and nothing else. I tried the sprinkles one because come on, Homer loves these things. I was so put off by it that I struggled to eat it. If it weren't for the economy, I'd have thrown it away. 0 out of 10. They are that bad.

I think they’re pretty tasty. My son loves the sprinkle ones that Homer recommends
