Dinner at YEW Seafood + Bar with Travelzoo Deal

YEW Seafood + Bar is one of the most popular, upscale contemporary restaurants in Vancouver.  Located inside the Four Seasons Hotel in Downtown Vancouver, YEW Seafood + Bar specializes in  Pacific Northwest cuisine with a focus on seafood.  I recently took advantage of the Travelzoo deal which is a dinner for two priced at $109 (essentially 50% off).  The deal includes two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts from the dinner menu, along with a glass of wine each.   The great part about this deal is that you get to order off the regular dinner menu.

Stylish, Chic, Sophisticated

YEW’s stylish and modern interior makes it a great place to celebrate special occasion, have a business dinner, or just unwind at the bar after a long day of work.

What We Tried

My husband and I ordered the following with the Travelzoo voucher.

  • Scallops + Morels ($24)
  • Sautéed Calamari ($22)
  • Lobster ($44)
  • Lamb Loin ($42)
  • Black Pearl ($11)
  • Strawberry Mess ($11)
  • Peach Mist ($8)

To start, I went with the Peach Mist mocktail.  It was a very fruity and refreshing drink with peach puree, iced tea and cane sugar.  However, I thought it was a bit too much sweet so perhaps omitting the cane sugar would have helped.

We were served a complimentary side of bread with butter.

The Sauteed Calamari with warm avocado and cherry tomatoes was a great beginning to the meal.  The texture of the squid was just perfect – not rubbery, but chewy yet still tender.  The cherry tomatoes added sweet flavours while the avocado added some creaminess.

The Scallops + Morels was also a very tasty dish from the green pea puree.  I enjoyed the earthy flavours from the morels.  Scallops were on the smaller side, which is probably appropriate for a starter.

The Lobster entree was just right up my alley with tender, buttery pieces of lobster.  The celeriac, carrots with leeks, and rhubarb were perfect accompaniments to the seafood.  I loved the champagne emulsion which was lusciously creamy.

The Lamb Loin featured tender pieces of lamb loin with carrots and greens, black olives and pine nuts.  The pine nuts offered a nice textural contrast.  I enjoyed the bursts of sweetness from the cherry tomatoes to balance all the salty and bitterness of the black olives.

To finish off a delightful meal, we had the Black Pearl – a dessert made for the chocolate lover.  It had black sesame ice cream, chocolate ganache and ginger cream.  A great combination of chocolately, citrusy and nutty flavours.

We also had the Strawberry Mess with a pink peppercorn almond tuile, oven roasted strawberries, fresh and dried strawberries, parmesan, and basil ice cream.  It was quite good and had predominantly berry and nutty flavours.  The tuile was very delicate, thin, crispy and sweet.

Service

Our server was top-notch and was the ideal server for our dining experience at YEW.  He was friendly, atttentive and very knowledgable of the menu.  Gold star.

Overall Impression of Dinner at YEW

From start to finish, our dinner at YEW was delicious and enjoyable even though we used a Travelzoo deal.  My ideal three-course meal would be the Scallops + Morels starter, Lobster entree, and Black Pearl dessert.  I highly recommend YEW to others dinner.  The Travelzoo voucher can be found here.  Rating: 4.5/5
