The Vancouver Christmas Market is in full swing and what better way to enjoy the market than to eat your way through it! That’s right, embark on a gastronomic journey by feasting on an array of mouth-watering German delectables including Glühwein (hot-spiced mulled wine), Bratwurst, Gulasch, Spätzle, Handbrot, German Pizza, and so much more. Last week, I had the pleasure of trying out many of the food vendors at this year’s Vancouver Christmas Market. I’m excited to be showing my top foodie moments starting tomorrow night in a @vanchristmas Instagram takeover. Please do follow along @vanchristmas but in the meanwhile here’s a recap of what I tried:
Handbrot & Soup (German grilled cheese)
New to the market this year is Handbrot & Soup. Handbrot or “hand bread” in German is made and baked in wood fired ovens on location with savoury fillings like House Smoked Ham. A hearty Pea & Ham Soup not only makes the perfect pairing to Handbrot but will most certainly warm you up!
German Pizza/ Flammkuchen
If you love pizza, you have to try the German pizza. All ingredients are BC produced including cheese by Smits & Co in Chilliwack and the German Prociutto (Schinkenspeck) is from Summit Creek Sausage, located in Bridge Lake.
Das Spatzle Haus (German egg noodles)
Spätzle Haus offers some mouthwatering delicious handmade German egg noodles with cucumber salad. Enjoy one of three choices of toppings: cheese and onions; wild mushroom cream sauce or coconut curry tomato sauce. If you can’t decide, get a mix!
Freybe Brat Haus (sausages/hot dogs)
German sausages and bratwurst are one of the most popular food items at the market. Check out “Das Brat,” a traditional German-style bratwurst, or other traditional sausages, dried pepperonis and savoury landjaegers.
Perogie Haus
At Perogies Haus, you’ll find delicious, homemade natural perogies made with 100% organic flour and no preservatives. Top if off with some sauerkraut, grilled onions, smokey bits and sour cream for a scrumptious meal.
Bavarian Haus (Pretzels)
Sometimes, a simple and delicious snack is all that you need. You’l find freshly baked pretzels and a selection of fine beers at the Bavarian Haus.
Gluhwein/ Feuerzangenbowle
Pair your market food with some Glühwein or Feuerzangenbowle, traditional alcoholic drinks offered during the Christmas holidays. Glühwein is prepared from red wine from The View Winery, heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, cloves, citrus and sugar. Feuerzangenbowle is made by setting a rum-soaked sugarcone on fire which then drips into mulled wine
Olga Capone Cannoli Company
Holy cannoli, the ones made by the Olga Capone Cannoli Company will have you coming back for more. For a sweet treat, you might just want to pick up one or more of these cannolis during your visit to the market. These Italian-style cannolis are made from an Old World recipe passed down from generation to generation since the 1930s.
AM Schoko
Chocolate lovers will certainly be impressed by the artistry of AM Schoko’s Italian chocolate. You’ll find some fun-shaped ones like cameras, sheep, tools, shoes and even skulls!
Canadian Kettle Korn Extreme
Canadian Kettle Korn Extreme offers some wonderfully light and fluffy corn in different flavours like Caramel and Christmas Mix. And for a fun foodie Christmas decoration, you might just want to consider a Kettle Korn ornament for your tree!
Sonnentor Tea
A good cup of warming tea is just what we need on winter evening. Sonnentor Tea has a wonderful selection of holiday teas with soothing scents of aromatic Christmas herbs, fruits and spices. If you’re a tea lover, you would enjoy the “Advent Calendar Tea” featuring a different tea for 12 days.

Looks great. Especially the egg noodles seems like an interesting fusion of cuisines tastefully prepared. I'm sure the Grilled Cheese is also fantastic in weather like this.
