North Vancouver Hidden Gem: Tour de Feast

Back in April, I was invited by Richard (aka Vancouver Foodster) to be a media judge for his Mac and Cheese Challenge. One of the participating restaurants was a hidden gem of sorts – Tour de Feast. Located in an industrial block in North Vancouver, it’s a small family-run bistro specializing in French cuisine. I visited them to try their Mac and Cheese dish for the challenge.

Disclosure: The food in this review was complimentary. Opinions are my own.

Tour de Feast’s Mac and Cheese dish was the “In Your Belly Mac & Cheese.” It featured casareccia pasta, gruyere cheese, sauce mornay, twice cooked organic Fraser valley pork belly, and truffle Parmesan bread crumbs ($14.50).

Tour de Feast’s participating dish was fully loaded and came on a sizzling plate. In general, it was a bit on the heavier side but still very tasty and had lots of cheesy goodness to it. The pork belly was very tender and delicious.

From a texture stand-point, it was a very interesting dish. There’s the melted cheese, chewy pasta and then the crunchy breadcrumbs.

As for the results, the dish received second place from the media judging.

I also had a chance to interact with owners of the restaurant. They’re humble, friendly folk and have a lot of passion for their restaurant and food that they serve. The restaurant has been around for several years now and they have not invested much in social media marketing but rather word of mouth. There are some great restaurants that use social media marketing to reach their clients, especially when they hold events. I visited one the other day that stated they used services offered by a company similar to SidesMedia (https://sidesmedia.com/) which worked perfectly for them due to how big the city was. So, I find that using word of mouth to pull in customers is just an amazing risk to take. Customers seem to be very happy so far because they have a 4.5/5 rating on Yelp and Tripadvisor.

Overall Impression of Tour de Feast

Tour de Feast seems like a charming, little French bistro in North Vancouver. Based on the Mac and Cheese dish alone, I’d be interested in revisiting them in the future for brunch. Rating: 4/5
