The Gluten Free Epicurean in Fraserhood

While I’ve had gluten free baked treats in the past, I’ve never actually been to a full fledged gluten free bakery.  On Instagram, I had seen that the Gluten Free Epicurean in Fraserhood makes very cute pink gluten free doughnuts.  And since I needed to do a small photo shoot for my Sudio headphones, I decided that their pink gluten free doughnuts would compliment my pink coloured headphones. Hence, my visit to The Gluten Free Epicurean was dual fold.

The Gluten Free Epicurean bakes everything in a 100% gluten free environment with local ingredients.  In fact, each item is made with it’s own special organic flour mix.  They offer a variety of sweet and savoury options that are free of dairy, nuts, refined sugars, grains and are vegan.  The mouthwatering selection includes cookies, tarts, cakes, brownies, sandwiches and more.  They also have a number of take and bake items like pie, cinnamon buns, cookies and pastries.

The cafe itself is a warm, inviting space with a vintage sort of feel.  It’s very cute and cozy with vintage white tables and curtains.  Also seems like a nice, family-friendly place as they have a small playing area for kids.

I went with the a rapsberry donut ($3.50) and mint peppermint brownie ($3.75).  These were served on cute mismatched plates.  Both treats were very moist but on the denser side.  I also found the icing to be too sweet for my liking unfortunately.

Overall Impression of The Gluten Free Epicurean

I enjoy the community-feel of The Gluten Free Epicurean and they seem to offer a good selection of gluten-free goods.  However, the baked treats I tried were just too sweet for my liking.  Rating: 3/5
