Port Moody Rocky Point Ice Cream

Rocky Point Park is a popular destination in Port Moody and features an amazing waterfront park and playground area.  This past summer, my family and I ventured to Rocky Point for the first time where my son enjoyed some splashing around through the spray ground.  The visit was dual fold as I was also a judge for Vanfoodster’s Sundae Challenge and needed to pay a visit to Rocky Point Ice Cream to judge their participating sundae.  It was a beautiful, warm summer after and ice cream was the perfect treat.

Cute, Family-Friendly Ice Cream Parlour

Rocky Point Ice Cream has been around since 1997 and specializes in small batch ice cream.  Their location in Rocky Point Park is just steps away from the waterpark.  Kids can enjoy a fun, special side entrance into the shop.

The interior is clean, bright, warm and inviting.  It’s the kind of place where you would want to bring your entire family around.

They are the only ice cream shop at Rocky Point so it’s obviously a popular place to go during the summer.  Line-ups seem to be pretty normal.

What I Tried

Disclosure: I received a complimentary sundae for the purposes of judging.

Rocky Point Ice Cream’s participating sundae was the Sweet Georgia Brown Sundae ($6).  It had two scoops of salted caramel ice cream topped with homemade brown butter candied pecans, handmade chocolate fudge, fresh whipped cream and finished with a maraschino cherry and handmade mini Waffle Fortune Cookie.   In general, the sundae tasted too rich for me. However, I found the candied pecans to be a fun textural contrast.  The mini fortune cookie was also a fun touch.

I also bought one scoop ($3.75) of cola ice cream and it tasted just like the name suggests.  Smooth, light and delicious!

On a separate occasion, I also visited their ice cream truck at the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival in David Lam Park.  I picked up a Cookies n’ Cream kid’s cone ($3.50) which was rich in flavour and smooth in texture.

Overall Impression of Rocky Point Ice Cream

While I wasn’t quite a fan of their sundae submission for the Vanfoodster challenge, I have quite enjoyed their regular flavours.  Their storefront in Port Moody is a nice, friendly place to grab some ice cream.  Rating: 4/5
