Peaceful Restaurant Review

Happy New Year, everyone!  Hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with joy, laughter and lots of good food.  Wishing you a delicious 2015!

For our new year lunch today, we visited Peaceful Restaurant on West Broadway and Cambie which specializes in Northern Chinese cuisine.  My husband is the better judge of Northern cuisine because he actually grew up there.  He does feel like the food from Peaceful Restaurant is closely authentic to the region.  He visited Peaceful Restaurant at this location on a few occasions, but this was actually my first time trying it out.

We waited 10 minutes for a table, but close to 40 minutes for the food!  Yikes, that was a long wait.  I overheard that they just had one cook on the wok.

Nevertheless, I was very excited about the Chilli-Garlic Sauce Shredded Pork which is stir-fried with shredded woodear fungus and bamboo.  I visited China a few years ago and found this dish to be one of my favorites.  I was actually a bit shocked at how sour this dish was, because the ones that I have tried are slightly sweeter tasting.  I guess they put in too much vinegar.

We ordered Chinese crepes to go along with it.  I typically love the shredded pork wrapped within a Chinese crepe, but the pork was too sour to consume in a concentrated quantity.  The sour taste of the shredded pork was milder when consumed with rice.  There were leftovers to this dish, and when I had it again later in the evening, the strong vinegar taste became much milder  It was definitely tastier than earlier.

Sichuan Broth Braised Beef served on greens, chili oil and broth was a dish that My husband really enjoyed.  We had a lot leftover, and we reheated it at home adding some lamb as well.  it was still delicious!

Although the food came slowly, the service was reasonable.  Their menu has quite a variety of selections including Northern style dim sum and I would be interested in trying out more dishes in the future.

I found the clip of Guy Fieri learning how to make pan-fried dumplings at Peaceful Restaurant.  It is cool that a picture of him is on their sign.
