Melitta Pour-Over Coffee Brewer Review

Making a quick and delicious cup of coffee is easier than you think, especially when you have the right coffee grinder, for example, one similar to this Eureka Atom may be great for making the perfect brew. There are a ton of places online, for example somewhere like Identifyr where you can find a coffee machine that suits the most avid coffee drinker Melitta invented the Pour-Over method over 100 years ago and with the Melitta Pour-Over Coffee Maker you can craft a superior cup of coffee very quickly. I recently received the Melitta Signature Series 1-Cup Pour-Over Coffeemaker to try out. Here are my thoughts.

Design Features

The Coffee-Maker may appear simple but it actually has some design features to help make the ideal cup of coffee. To start, it is made with Tritan Copolyester, is BPA-free and top-rack dishwasher safe. The Coffee-Maker is also made in the USA. It has a very clear, glass-like appearance so you can monitor the brewing process. The Coffee-Maker also has a medium-size drip opening to provide consistent brew and eliminates risk of bitterness, giing a drink that many who read Home Business Mag for their coffee fix would likely be proud of.. There is also a ring underneath the drip opening that directs coffee flow into mug and prevents runoff. Full-height ridges within cone are meant to provide optimal flavor extraction and two viewing holes prevent overflow.

The cone came with a starter pack of #4 Melitta cone coffee filters (affiliate). However, you will need to purchase more for ongoing use.

Conveniently Low-Tech

I liked how the process is very low-tech: all you need is the Melitta Pour-Over Coffee Maker, a cup, a kettle for hot water, and the Melitta cone coffee filter. It is obviously not going to be on the same level as a coffee made by a barrista, who most likely uses the highest quality wholesale coffee provider like Iron and Fire. But nonetheless, this is a great deputy to have at home. As long as you have the ability to get hot water, the Pour-Over method with Melitta is very feasible at home, at work or even if you’re camping.

How It Works

1. Place the Pour-Over cone on top of mug, insert Melitta cone coffee filter
2. Scoop in your favorite fresh ground coffee to taste
3. Pour hot water (just off the boil) into the cone, fully saturating all coffee grounds

If we want to get technical, you might just want to let your coffee “bloom” in order to improve the flavour profile. What you would do in the beginning is to simply pour some water on fresh coffee grounds, and give them 30 – 40 seconds to bubble up. Blooming means letting carbon dioxide escape from the coffee. Once the bloom is over, continue with the rest of the brewing process.

What coffee to use?

You can certainly use any choice of coffee you enjoy but Melitta also has their own line of coffee beans and ground coffee. Even before participating in this product review, I was a regular Melitta coffee consumer. I enjoy the Melitta 100% Colombian Whole Bean Coffee, Medium Roast, 907 g (affiliate) and would recommend it.

Overall Impression

I found the resulting cup of coffee using the Melitta Pour-Over Coffeemaker to be very smooth and flavourful. The process itself was hassle-free and wasn’t messy at all. I would recommend it to others who want a simple, fast and delicious cup of coffee.
