Fraser Valley Juice and Salad on Granville Island

Fraser Valley Juice and Salad Curry

I have been spending more time on Granville Island with my son lately as he really enjoys exploring around.  We regularly visited the Granville Island Public Market when it’s time for a snack.  Located within the market is the Fraser Valley Juice and Salad – a food stall that that is known for fresh salads, steamed and stir-fried vegetables, salad rolls, and freshly squeezed juices.  The food is premade and on display in the cold/salad bar and hot item bar.  Their menu is available online but prices seem outdated.

What I Tried

I was attracted to their stall because it looked like they were offering healthier eats.  On the first visit, I ordered small organic orange juice ($3.75).  Refreshing, decent orange concentration, not overly sweet.  A little pricey, it was more or less okay as a premium drink.

To round out this review, I decided to try one of their hot food items on a separate occasion.  I did not have high hopes but unfortunately the experience was just lack luster.  I ordered a curry chicken ($8.99) which came with rice and steamed vegetables.  Communication was challenging as I did not quite understand the English of the woman who was helping me.  In terms of the rice, you have option of the white rice in the rice cooker or the fried rice in the warmer.  I opted for the white rice since the fried rice did not look appetizing.  You can also choose which steamed vegetables you want; I opted for an assortment.

The end product of my curry chicken order was white rice immersed in a bowl of curry chicken with steamed vegetables on top.  When it comes to taste, it was a disaster.  While I appreciated the meaty, tender chicken pieces, the curry was so bland it can hardly be called a curry. The assorted vegetables (pumpkin, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy) were steamed and also tasteless.  It was an overall very unappetizing hot entree.

Overall Impression of Fraser Valley Juice and Salad

The organic juice from Fraser Valley Juice and Salad on Granville Island seems okay, but I would steer clear of the hot entrees.  Rating: 2/5
