Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Next Media Films launch party at Montauk Sofa in Gastown. The event was to celebrate the upcoming release of the film Dreamchasers, a Vancouver-based production featuring over 20 Youtube stars. After the event, a few food bloggers and myself including Every Day is a Food Day, Picky Diners and The Lazy Vlogger went for a coffee session at Coffebar in Gastown.
Late Night Coffee
I normally do not venture to a coffee shop this late at night so the experience was somewhat interesting to me. Coffeebar closes at 10:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The interior was dark overall but there was just the right amount of light above the tables for it to be comfortable. Coffeebar’s space is long and there were lots of tables along the side windows which I imagine would be a nice place to sit during the daytime.
What We Tried
The coffee served at Coffeebar is by 49th Parallel. I thought that they had nice selection of desserts and baked goods in their display case. Their macarons are priced at $2 but seemed noticeably smaller than other place in the city. In general, I was concerned that the food had just been sitting too long in the display case since it was so late.
Picky Diners ordered a chai latte, which even in the dark, looked quite pretty. We then ordered a few desserts including a tiramisu, lemon coconut bar and brownie bar which were between $3 – $5.
In general, the desserts were just okay. I found the tiramisu to be a bit dry, but the dessert bars were reasonable and not too hard. I preferred the lemon coconut bar – sweet and zesty.
Overall Impression of Coffeebar
All in all, the late night coffee session at Coffeebar was okay though nothing to write home about. I liked the cozy, hipster atmosphere even at night. Rating: 3/5
